Terrors of the Cretaceous Tide: Mosasaur Jaw and Marine Predator Teeth
This display highlights the formidable dental anatomy of the apex predators that ruled the global oceans during the Late Cretaceous epoch, roughly 90 to 66 million years ago. Centered prominently on a custom mount is a fossilized partial jaw section of a mosasaur, a massive marine reptile, featuring three sharply pointed, conical teeth firmly rooted within their original sedimentary sandstone matrix. Surrounding this central artifact is an impressive assortment of isolated marine predator fossils, including the iconic broad, triangular teeth of ancient sharks and a long, curved tooth root positioned to the left. These highly specialized teeth were engineered for securing slippery prey, slicing through thick flesh, and crushing the hard shells of ammonites. Exhibited together on a reflective surface, this collection provides an intimate look at the evolutionary adaptations that allowed prehistoric marine hunters to dominate the ancient seas prior to the end-Cretaceous mass extinction event.
